Abstract

This paper considers some of the aspects of applying predictive control to a single phase Matrix Converter. Among all the proposed control techniques for Matrix Converters, predictive control has become a plausible and versatile option due to its ability to deal with different system and operation requirements. The main problem with predictive control is that it generates a variable switching frequency for each power device, creating an imbalance in the losses and therefore potentially their useful life. This variable switching can also cause a high harmonic content in the output waveforms of a matrix converter. This work proposes to implement the predictive control technique with a fixed switching frequency applied to the single-phase matrix converter (SPMC) and a comparison of the performance between the proposed control and the variable switching frequency counterpart, showing the advantages and disadvantages between the two strategies.
