Achieving low voltage half electrolysis with a supercapacitor electrode (2013)
Journal Article
Peng, C., Hu, D., & Chen, G. Z. (2014). Achieving low voltage half electrolysis with a supercapacitor electrode. Energy and Environmental Science, 7(3), 1018-1022. doi:10.1039/c3ee43817a

Half electrolysis consists of a single faradaic reaction and a supercapacitor electrode. The electrolytic product is only produced at the faradaic electrode and the low voltage electrolysis is highly energy efficient.

The Ionic Diffusion Model for the Solid Oxide Cathode and Its Verification by the Electrolysis of Ta2O5 in Molten CaCl2 (2013)
Journal Article
Chen, H. L., Wang, Z. Y., Jin, X. B., & Chen, G. (2014). The Ionic Diffusion Model for the Solid Oxide Cathode and Its Verification by the Electrolysis of Ta2O5 in Molten CaCl2. Journal of Electrochemistry, 20(3), 266-271. https://doi.org/10.13208/j.electrochem.130886

The deoxidation speed of a solid oxide cathode in molten CaCl2 can be estimated by the PRS steady diffusion model of O2, which correlates the deoxidation speed with the precursor porosity, P, the metal-to-oxide molar volume ratio, R, and the cathode... Influences of ions and temperature on performance of carbon nano-particulates in supercapacitors with neutral aqueous electrolytes (2013)
Journal Article
Chae, J. H., & Chen, G. Z. (2014). Influences of ions and temperature on performance of carbon nano-particulates in supercapacitors with neutral aqueous electrolytes. Particuology, 15, 9-17. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.partic.2013.02.008

A commercial product of carbon nano-particles, Cabot MONACH 1300 pigment black (CMPB), was studied for basic structural information and electrochemical performance in neutral aqueous electrolytes, aiming at applications in supercapacitors. As confirm... Read More about Influences of ions and temperature on performance of carbon nano-particulates in supercapacitors with neutral aqueous electrolytes.

Near-net-shape production of hollow titanium alloy components via electrochemical reduction of metal oxide precursors in molten salts (2013)
Journal Article
Hu, D., Xiao, W., & Chen, G. Z. (2013). Near-net-shape production of hollow titanium alloy components via electrochemical reduction of metal oxide precursors in molten salts. Metallurgical and Materials Transactions B, 44(2), 272-282. https://doi.org/10.1007/s11663-013-9800-5

Metal oxide precursors (ca. 90 wt pct Ti, 6 wt pct Al, and 4 wt pct V) were prepared with a hollow structure in various shapes such as a sphere, miniature golf club head, and cup using a one-step solid slip-casting process. The precursors were then e... Read More about Near-net-shape production of hollow titanium alloy components via electrochemical reduction of metal oxide precursors in molten salts.

Forming metal powders by electrolysis (2013)
Book Chapter

Fossil fuels will eventually be replaced by renewables. Currently, the most feasible and efficient way of utilising renewable energy is to convert it to electricity. In response to this change, fossil energy-based pyrometallurgical processes will ine... Read More about Forming metal powders by electrolysis.
