Abstract
This chapter discusses the implications of the environmental sustainability agenda for organisations, management, and professionals in healthcare. It first considers the way in which sustainability is being promoted within public policy, supported by emerging sustainability actors and agencies. In particular, it examines the type of changes advocated in the National Health Service England document ‘Delivering a net zero NHS’. It is suggested that the proposed trajectory of change sits within, rather than radically challenges, longstanding themes of policy and managerial reform. The chapter then moves on to outline ways in which the advocated changes could affect professions and work practices within healthcare and begins to consider the extent to which professionals may engage and identify with the environmental sustainability agenda.
