Abstract
This paper develops a finite state machine-based supervisory controller that applies a set of pre-defined energy management and safety rules to a representative aircraft electrical power system that includes an advanced smart grid power distribution system. The work describes the smart grid power distribution system that is being developed through the Advanced Smart-Grid Power Distribution System (ASPIRE) clean sky project, and presents the set of rules that are to be applied during the operation of the power system. The paper demonstrates how the finite state machine is used to apply the set of rules to the electrical power system in the Simulink environment. Three case scenarios are presented and simulated to verify and validate the supervisory controller.
