Abstract

This paper discusses the biographies of Situla Art objects recycled as ex-votos found at four Iron Age sanctuaries – Este-Baratella and Caldevigo (Veneto, NE Italy), Mechel (Cles, Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, NE Italy) and Pillerhöhe (Fließ, Tirol, west Austria) – between the Adige and Inn valleys, in both the Atestine and Fritzens-Sanzeno cultural areas. A total of 40 bronze votive plaques produced by recycling Situla Art objects and 14 fragmented Situla Art objects, probably hoarded at these sanctuaries for the production of ex-votos, were analysed in order to: (a) investigate regional and inter-regional deposition patterns across time and space, (b) identify local ritual peculiarities.
