Abstract

This second edition of School Leadership and Education System Reform includes contributions from a range of academics, policy makers and practitioners. It focuses on developments in England and addresses four questions: i) how can school leaders shape organizations that offer consistently high quality, rounded and equitable education in the context of rapid change?; ii) how can wider school systems support and encourage all schools to succeed in this way?; iii) what are the challenges and opportunities involved?; iv) what can we learn from existing evidence and research? This Introduction starts by setting the context and explaining the thinking that underpins the collection. It then briefly summarises the headline changes that have occurred in the English school system in recent years before outlining the focus of the individual chapters and sections.
