Abstract

Model-based predictive control is one of the most used strategies for power converters. Its popularity is due to the simple inclusion of several regulation objectives in the control law, which is a desired feature for multilevel voltage source inverters. This research presents the implementation of predictive control methods for three-level neutral-point clamped inverters. A classical and a fixed switching frequency algorithms are evaluated to compare the performance of the techniques. The results show the benefits of predictive controllers and the contributions of the fixed switching frequency scheme.
