Abstract
This paper proposes a novel machine with segmented permanent magnets (PM) poles and optimized Halbach array having different eccentricities, i.e., the inner and outer arcs of the segmented PM have different centers. The electromagnetic property of the motor with segmented-eccentric magnet poles, magnetized by optimized Halbach array, is given in detail. The finite-element analysis is employed for investigation, while changing the eccentricity and magnetization angle of the model to achieve excellent performance. It shows that comparing with traditional three-segment Halbach array, segmented-eccentric magnet poles exhibit significant potential to achieve low torque ripple, high electromagnetic torque, and low magnet usage simultaneously.
