Abstract
There are sensory changes and decline in all senses, although people are often more aware of the changes in vision and hearing than those in touch, smell and taste. In the first part of this article, I will summarize and discuss these changes. In the latter part of the chapter, I summarize theories of brain or cognitive ageing and how they relate to perceptual change. There is not yet a single parsimonious explanation of the interaction between perception, cognition and ageing but it is likely that adapting sensory stimuli to the ageing brain may offer opportunities to improve neurocognitive function.
