Abstract

Postdigital technologies can be a double-edged sword for environmental crises. Various postdigital technologies are being used to good effect to address environmental crises including the climate crisis, biodiversity loss, and the destruction of rainforests. For example, there is potential for postdigital technologies to prevent overfishing and to save the remaining rainforests. However, postdigital technologies can also add to environmental crises. Materials and energy are required for the production of postdigital technologies, and these technologies are not a silver bullet for addressing environmental problems. This entry considers the double-edged sword in using postdigital technologies for addressing environmental crises.
