Abstract

This book considers how Peter Gabriel's music, video, performance, multimedia work and political engagement amount to a shifting understanding of location and locatedness. This moves from personal, psychological, historical and mythical location to a more real world perspective. the book considers in detail his engagement with global musics and global mediated society to move beyond simple critiques of cultural appropriation, to argue that Gabriel is a leading thinker-practitioner of the postcolonial.
