Copper-catalyzed borylative coupling of vinylazaarenes and N-Boc imines (2016)
Journal Article
Smith, J. J., Best, D., & Lam, H. W. (2016). Copper-catalyzed borylative coupling of vinylazaarenes and N-Boc imines. Chemical Communications, https://doi.org/10.1039/C6CC00603E

Cu-catalyzed three-component couplings of vinylazaarenes, B2(pin)2, and N-Boc imines are described. Oxidation of the initially formed boronate gives azaarene-containing, Boc-protected amino alcohols with reasonable to good diastereoselectivities.

Synthesis of triazole-linked morpholino oligonucleotides via Cu1 catalysed cycloaddition (2016)
Journal Article
Palframan, M. J., Alharthy, R. D., Powalowska, P. K., & Hayes, C. J. (in press). Synthesis of triazole-linked morpholino oligonucleotides via Cu1 catalysed cycloaddition. Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry, 14, https://doi.org/10.1039/C6OB00007J

Triazole-linked morpholino (TLMO) oligonucleic acids were synthesised using the CuI catalysed (3 + 2) azide–alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) reaction. The modified DNA analogues were incorporated into 13-mer sequences via solid phase synthesis. UV meltin... Synthesis of quaternary aryl phosphonium salts: photoredox-mediated phosphine arylation (2016)
Journal Article
Fearnley, A., An, J., Jackson, M., Lindovska, P., & Denton, R. (2016). Synthesis of quaternary aryl phosphonium salts: photoredox-mediated phosphine arylation. Chemical Communications, 52, https://doi.org/10.1039/C6CC00556J

We report a synthesis method for the construction of quaternary aryl phoshonium salts at ambient temperature. The regiospecific reaction invovles the coupling of phosphines with aryl radicals derived from diaryliodonium salts under photoredox conditi... PP1 initiates the dephosphorylation of MASTL, triggering mitotic exit and bistability in human cells (2016)
Journal Article
Rogers, S., Fey, D., McCloy, R. A., Parker, B. L., Mitchell, N. J., Payne, R. J., …Burgess, A. (2016). PP1 initiates the dephosphorylation of MASTL, triggering mitotic exit and bistability in human cells. Journal of Cell Science, 129(7), 1340-1354. https://doi.org/10.1242/jcs.179754

Entry into mitosis is driven by the phosphorylation of thousands of substrates, under the master control of Cdk1. During entry into mitosis, Cdk1, in collaboration with MASTL kinase, represses the activity of the major mitotic protein phosphatases, P... Journal Article
Bueken, B., Vermoortele, F., Cliffe, M. J., Wharmby, M. T., Foucher, D., Wieme, J., …De Vos, D. (2016). A Breathing Zirconium Metal-Organic Framework with Reversible Loss of Crystallinity by Correlated Nanodomain Formation. Chemistry - A European Journal, 22(10), 3264-3267. https://doi.org/10.1002/chem.201600330

The isoreticular analogue of the metal–organic framework UiO‐66(Zr), synthesized with the flexible trans‐1,4‐cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid as linker, shows a peculiar breathing behavior by reversibly losing long‐range crystalline order upon evacuation... Understanding anionic Chugaev elimination in pericyclic tetracene formation (2016)
Journal Article
Burroughs, L., Ritchie, J., & Woodward, S. (2016). Understanding anionic Chugaev elimination in pericyclic tetracene formation. Tetrahedron, 72(13), https://doi.org/10.1016/j.tet.2016.02.025

The reaction pathway for the formation of tetracenes from the diols 1,2-C6H4(CHOHC≡CAr)2 , LiHDMS, CS2 and MeI has been modelled by computational methods at the CBS-QB3 level of theory. Comparison of PhCHOC(=S)YCCPh (Y = S- or SMe) indicates a sligh... Read More about Understanding anionic Chugaev elimination in pericyclic tetracene formation.
