Prof. JONATHAN GARIBALDI
Biography | I am currently Head of School of Computer Science, University of Nottingham, Head of the Intelligent Modelling and Analysis (IMA) Research Group and Founding Director (together with Prof. Richard Emes) of the Advanced Data Analysis Centre (ADAC). I have worked in the School of Computer Science at the University of Nottingham since 2002, being a full Professor from 2012. Since being at the School, I have held a variety of administrative roles including Admissions Tutor, Director of Teaching and (since Jan 2016) Head of School. I was the Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems (http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/xpl/RecentIssue.jsp?punumber=91), the leading international journal in fuzzy research from 2017-2022. I am a Fellow of the IEEE. |

Research Interests | My main research interest is in developing intelligent techniques to model human reasoning in uncertain environments, with a particular emphasis on the medical domain. My main technical area of research is into using non-standard fuzzy sets and systems, such as type-2 fuzzy sets and systems, to model human reasoning processes. In addition, I have interests in data analysis, particularly of complex and uncertain data, data mining, clustering and classification, and in the deployment of decision support systems in practical medical applications. Keywords: fuzzy sets and systems; uncertainty handling; data analysis; decision support systems; medical applications |
Teaching and Learning | I am currently supervising PGT students. |
