Abstract

This paper discusses the use of different parallel transient overvoltage protection elements to deal with transient overvoltages within high-voltage high-current bidirectional DC solid-state circuit breakers (SSCBs) for electric/hybrid-electric aircraft applications. In particular, the paralleling of overvoltage protection elements has been investigated here as such arrangements are needed for higher voltages as well as higher energy dissipation requirements. Experimental results showing the benefits of energy dissipation sharing between parallel branches of Schottky diodes and RC snubber circuit are presented and discussed here.
