Consequences of context : how the social, political, and economic environment affects voting

Abstract

This book presents the most extensive study to date of how context influences citizens’ electoral behaviour. Context consists of aspects of the political, economic and social domains, and citizens’ electoral behaviour involves their participation in elections and their subsequent decision of which party to vote for. The principal focus of the book is not whether people vote and for which party but instead the more fundamental question of how the determinants of these behaviours interact with the environment in which elections take place. The analyses use an integrated database of national election studies conducted in European countries and an innovative multi-level logistic regression methodology.
