Abstract

This paper presents a fuzzy logic-based controller designed for maximum power point tracking (MPPT) in a high-gain dc-dc three-level boost converter (TLBC) specifically tailored for photovoltaic applications. High-gain dc-dc converters, exemplified by the three-level converter, prove advantageous in photovoltaic systems by facilitating the elevation of low PV voltages to higher levels, thereby mitigating power losses and enhancing overall efficiency. The advantages connected with the use of fuzzy logic controllers (FLCs) include a reduction in the demand for advanced mathematical modeling, allowing for real-time operation through computational efficiency. Such features can lead to heightened efficiency, dependability, and scalability in addressing nonlinear problems, particularly within power converter-based systems. The simulations done using MATLAB/Simulink show that the proposed fuzzy logic-based MPPT provides high, robust behavior with minimised steady-state error under fast-varying environmental situations compared with traditional MPPT algorithms.
