The Education Reform Act 1988 and the subsequent implementation of the National Curriculum has led to important changes for nutrition education in schools., This applies in particular to the location, methods and materials used and the time allocated. Our review suggests that nutrition education is included within each Key Stage and is located primarily within science, design & technology and through cross-curricular themes, notably health education. Teachers may be well placed to deliver a comprehensive and coherent food and nutrition education to schoolchildren. However, the extent to which such potential is being realised remains unclear.
