Abstract

Sex work is a highly contested, deeply moral, and politicized terrain. This entry examines the nature of anthropological knowledge about sex work and the ways of knowing, seeing, and communicating about sexual commerce. It discusses the sex work and feminism debates, focusing on abolitionist feminism and sex-work feminism and some major criticisms of these perspectives, and considers emotions in sex-work research as well as the more practical aspects of doing fieldwork on sex work.
