Integrated output filter inductor for permanent magnet motor drives
Conference Proceeding
Raza Khowja, M., Gerada, C., Vakil, G., Wheeler, P., & Patel, C. (in press). Integrated output filter inductor for permanent magnet motor drives.

This paper presents a novel approach to integrate the output filter inductor in permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive system. The integrated output filter inductor is based on utilizing the motor magnetics as a filter inductance instead of... Superconducting and conventional electromagnetic launch system for civil aircraft assisted take-off
Conference Proceeding
Bertola, L., Cox, T., Wheeler, P., & Garvey, S. D. (in press). Superconducting and conventional electromagnetic launch system for civil aircraft assisted take-off.

This paper compares three possible linear motor topologies for an electromagnetic launch system to assist civil aircraft take-off. Assisted launch of civil aircraft has the potential of reducing the required runway length, reducing noise and emission... More electric aircraft starter-generator system with utilization of hybrid modulated model predictive control
Conference Proceeding
Yoeh, S. S., Yang, T., Tarisciotti, L., Hill, C. I., & Bozhko, S. (in press). More electric aircraft starter-generator system with utilization of hybrid modulated model predictive control.

The current trend for future aircraft is the adoption of the More Electric Aircraft (MEA) concept. The electrical based starter-generator (S/G) system is one of the core ideas from the MEA concept. The PI based control scheme has been investigated in... Read More about More electric aircraft starter-generator system with utilization of hybrid modulated model predictive control.

Nonlinear aircraft engine model for future integrated power center development
Conference Proceeding
Enalou, H., Rashed, M., Kulsangcharoen, P., Hill, C. I., & Bozhko, S. (in press). Nonlinear aircraft engine model for future integrated power center development.

Aircraft engines, the prime source of on-board power, play a vital role within the electrical power generation system. In literature these are considerably simplified to rudimentary engine speed. In this paper, a nonlinear zero-dimension (0-D) order... Read More about Nonlinear aircraft engine model for future integrated power center development.

Threshold preservation of PT-resonant structures in realistic-dispersive medium
Conference Proceeding
Phang, S., Vukovic, A., Creagh, S. C., Benson, T. M., Sewell, P., & Gradoni, G. Threshold preservation of PT-resonant structures in realistic-dispersive medium.

The impact of material dispersion in the performance of parity-time (PT) symmetric coupled microresonators is studied. The eigenfrequencies of the coupled PT-system are analysed for different dispersion parameter. We show that realistic dispersion pr... Intergenerational interpretation of the Internet of Things
Book
Brown, M., Coughlan, T., Lawson, G., Mortier, R., Houghton, R., & Goulden, M. Intergenerational interpretation of the Internet of Things. Horizon Digital Economy Reseearch Institute. Manuscript submitted for publication

This report investigates how different generations within a household interpret individual members’ data generated by the Internet of Things (IoT). Adopting a mixed methods approach, we are interested in interpretations of the IoT by teenagers, thei... Read More about Intergenerational interpretation of the Internet of Things.

A hybrid neural network/rule-based technique for on-line gesture and hand-written character recognition
Conference Proceeding
Craven, M. P., Curtis, K. M., Hayes-Gill, B. H., & Thursfield, C. A hybrid neural network/rule-based technique for on-line gesture and hand-written character recognition.

A technique is presented which combines rule-based and neural network pattern recognition methods in an integrated system in order to perform learning and recognition of hand-written characters and gestures in realtime. The GesRec system is introd... Read More about A hybrid neural network/rule-based technique for on-line gesture and hand-written character recognition.

Multiple channel crosstalk removal using limited connectivity neural networks
Conference Proceeding
Craven, M. P., Curtis, K. M., & Hayes-Gill, B. R. Multiple channel crosstalk removal using limited connectivity neural networks.

Limited connectivity neural network architectures are investigated for the removal of crosstalk in systems using mutually overlapping sub-channels for the communication of multiple signals, either analogue or digital. The crosstalk error is modelled... Read More about Multiple channel crosstalk removal using limited connectivity neural networks.

Parity-Time coupled microresonators: Kramers-Kronig limitation
Conference Proceeding
Phang, S., Vukovic, A., Creagh, S. C., Sewell, P., Gradoni, G., & Benson, T. M. Parity-Time coupled microresonators: Kramers-Kronig limitation.

In this talk, we use a KKE argument to show that the presence of dispersion alters the eigen-frequencies of coupled PT coupled microresonators, so that their eigen-frequencies are no longer complex conjugates after the EP.

Coupled parity-time symmetric cavities: results from transmission line modelling simulations
Conference Proceeding
Phang, S., Vukovic, A., Creagh, S., Sewell, P. D., Gradoni, G., & Benson, T. M. (2015). Coupled parity-time symmetric cavities: results from transmission line modelling simulations.

This paper studies the impact of a dispersive gain/loss material model on Parity-Time (PT) coupled microresonator cavity structures using the time-domain Transmission-Line Modelling method. A modal analysis is also performed to compare the modal comp... Read More about Coupled parity-time symmetric cavities: results from transmission line modelling simulations.
