Abstract

This article introduces the Queer Bandung project as an exemplary site of transnational solidarity amongst queer of color and strategies of queer decolonization operating at a grassroots level outside the purview of nation states. The research process for this article was informed by participatory action research, in which the researcher played an active role in shaping the research process and in making social change. Through organizing public events and conducting interviews, I invited the project organizers and participants to reflect upon their own experiences. This article draws on these workshop discussions and interviews. Its purpose is to explore how queer people of color can use cultural and artistic methods to enact transnational solidarity and imagine a non-Eurocentric queer world. I also interrogate how post-socialist architecture can be used as a curatorial locus of queer decolonization in an urban setting.
