Abstract

This chapter describes the growing literature on the effects of media on Covid-19-related outcomes. First, it discusses the papers related to traditional media. In particular, it discusses the literature that studies the effect of public messages, misinformation, and slanted media on health behaviors and health outcomes. Second, it discusses papers that highlight the role of social media content and social media users’ networks in the spread of information, formation of social norms, and transmission of diseases. It concludes with a discussion of how the pandemic, in turn, shapes the media.
