@misc { , title = {Rethinking ‘International Perspective’ in Education Studies: ‘Knowing’ education in the global era}, abstract = {This chapter explores the knowledge of ‘education’ at an international level. The concept of ‘education’ is becoming increasingly complex in the context of modernisation and globalisation. The chapter deals with a historical review of the changing international contexts and how education has been involved and embedded; this is followed by a reflection on ‘what we need to know about education’ in the global context. It provides some methodological reflections on conducting research in international education based on such understandings. If ‘what education looks like in different countries’ is the x-axis of international education, then the y-axis may refer to the role that education has played in the changing discourse and practice of international development, especially in the process of developing countries pursuing modernisation. Education is considered to be important within the context of modernisation theory. This is evident in T. W. Schultz's human capital theory which considers the capital produced by investing in knowledge.}, publicationstatus = {Published}, publisher = {Routledge}, url = {https://nottingham-repository.worktribe.com/output/9898711}, year = {2024}, author = {Yuan, Tingting} editor = {Simon, Catherine A. and Downes, Graham} }
