@misc { , title = {Structural characterisation of carbon nanotubes in the presence of a Ni catalyst}, abstract = {Multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) grown by chemical vapour deposition (CVD) of an ethene / hydrogen gas mixture on alumina supported and unsupported nickel catalysts for 10, 20 and 120 minutes at 600oC and 700oC are compared. Nano-scale nickel particles were identified at the tube ends and also within the main body of the tubes. The particles exhibited comet like structures suggesting the metal to be highly mobile if not molten during processing. HREM observations demonstrate the carbon planes to be parallel to the nickel particle surfaces, while eventually becoming drawn out to define the carbon tube walls. The tubes are generally found to emanate from larger encapsulated nickel particles. A growth mechanism involving the propulsion of mobile nickel through the precipitation of the carbon is discussed.}, isbn = {750309679}, issue = {179}, note = {From email of 09.03.11: We note that Professor Paul Brown of Nottingham University would like to make available to the University's repository his electronic versions of papers which first appeared in the Institute of Physics Conference Series Volume 179 (2004). As this volume was published in print format only and Professor Brown has presumably produced his own e-prints, then IOP Publishing would be happy for him to add these to the institutional repository provided that the full bibliographic citation is quoted along with each e-print. As it will not be possible for the e-prints to link back to the actual articles on the IOP Publishing web pages, it would be good if a link could be provided to the IOPscience homepage instead, i.e. http://iopscience.iop.org/ Dr Jill Membrey Managing Editor, Copyright and Permissions jill.membrey@iop.org NB Sample PDF was sent to them, so presumably OK.
